As for why he is doing this - this is one of the great "cat mysteries" that may never be revealed. I suspect that in some way he is getting the attention he craves. Or perhaps it is a marking thing...but if you are leery of Feliway it probably would be wisest not to use it in this case. Good luck!
:::You obviously have one little bundle of energy on your hands. For some reason he is getting some sort of satisfaction about clawing your bedding. Is it possible to put him in a "time out" area for a while when he does this? It will disrupt your sleep more in the short run, but in the long run it may extinguish this behavior. Also be sure he has a VERY intensive play session right before you turn in at night. Play until he drops on his side and shows no interest in continuing.
