We adopted a kitten from someone who was giving away free kittens. Our little girl was never 'wild' but she had the same problem of biting and scratching and was left alone all day because of work and classes. When we took our kitten to the vet, the answer we got was to still completely still because any movement was saying to her that we wanted to play with her and it was okay for her to bite so hard.

I wish I could help you more but what finally happened was that she grew out of it. We played with her and petted her and when she started biting too hard, we stopped and stayed completely still. Finally she just stopped and now we play just fine.
