The easy solution for Bobby (now 11 pounds, the vet said he is probably going to be around 15 pounds, Maine coons are BIG) and me was to get another cat.
Daisy looks angelically quiet, but she has a mischievous heart. The two kitties bonded after just two days (she wanted OUT of confinement) and the only thing I can say is that WE ALL THREE are delighted. They play together all the time and both sleep with me MOST of the night (on the same bed!)
If you have an energetic kitty, get another one! Make sure it has more or less the same personality, though.
