Have you had your cat examined by a vet? That would be the first step, although usually it is urinary rather than bowel problems that cause inproper litterbox usuage.

Has anything changed around your house? New member of the family, new pet, new cat hanging around outside? Very often pooping problems are a sign that the cat feels their territory is threatened and they leave a little "sign" that they are the dominant cat.

Be sure to thoroughly deodorize wherever the cat has been pooping with an enzyme cleaner like Nature's Miracle. You might try some Feliway, although if she's pooping close to the box, this might cause more problems then help.

I recommend you visit www.catfaeries.com and check out Feliway and also check out their consultation service for litterbox problems. I have talked to the woman who does this and she is extremely knowledgeable and might be able to give you some further pointers if you decide to give her a call. It used to cost a small fee, but I think if you buy Feliway you can get the advice for free.

If all else fails, check with the vet about using some sort of anti-anxiety medication.
