long-haired british shorthairs?

hi
i recently adopted two beautiful cats. the male of the two is a 14lb.,wonderful example of a cream british shorthair. the female looks like a tabby persian, but the former owner explained to me that she's a rare example of the persian in the breed coming through - she's apparently from pedigree british shorthair parents! the two had a litter together before they were spayed/neutered, and i've seen one of the kittens, a gorgeous blue/cream female.
i'm writing purely out of curiosity since i've never read about this anywhere - it has nothing to do with money or misrepresentation on the former owner's part.
has anyone heard of this phenomenon?
thanks!
