Sorry about the loss of your old kitty. I have 10 cats the oldest is 16 and the youngest is 5 months. Onyx (the 16 yo) rules the house with an iron paw and the kit mostly plays with the younger cats. The older ones just ignore him when at all possible and give him a swat and a hiss if he gets out of hand with them. I would recommend 2 kits so that they could play with each other and leave her alone more.
