Mixing males & females

I used to have two 16 year old (operated) females from the same litter, but one of them recently passed away. I was thinking about getting two new kittens to add some life in my house, and to give some company to my remaining cat, who's obviously not used to being alone in the house.

My question is : Would there be a problem for my older cat with me getting either two males kittens, or one female and one male. Or should I simply get two female kittens. I've never had a male cat, and I don't want it to start trying to mate with my older cat, or its sibbling... THEY WILL BE FIXED.
