In Reply to: Cornish Rex Hair Loss!! HELP posted by Cherie on April 05, 2002 at 13:14:55:
: I just purchased my first Cornish Rex show cat, Goblin. Goblin is 8 months old and was a little sparse in hair when I bought him from the breeder, but since I have brought him home (1 month) he has lost a great portion of his fur.
: There is a strip down his back to his tail and now the hind legs are getting sparse. Is this something I should be really worried about or is this temporary.
: Goblin is going to the April 20 show and his coat will be a good portion of his showing grade, should I withdraw him now?
: His hair is free of mites, no fleas, he eats only Iams, what could I be doing that would make his hair fall out?
: I am unable to get a return call from the woman who sold him to me, but he is a Robert Fleet bred cat.
: Any help is appreciated.
My rex lost all the hair on his hindquarters and the vet told me it was a common allergic reaction to a flea bite. He need not show evidence of an infestation as a single bite can do it. He grew all his hair back and just turned 18.
