Lauren: Yes, thank you for the information.
I had my first cat declawed (front only). It was a decision I immediately regretted and I vowed to never ever do that to a cat again. Her pretty little front feet looked like someone took a hammer to them. I mistakenly thought that since I had an indoor cat, this was the only way to keep her from destroying furniture, drapes, etc. My sweetheart Mindy died at age 5 from FIP and I now have two Tonkinese; a 14 (birthday yesterday) year old male named Chris(tmas Kitty) and my 9 year old "baby girl" Pendragon SkuShi. Since I have had these two cats, I have clipped claws every Saturday. This morning I clipped 36 kitty tootsies. It takes just a few minutes, both of my cats are used to it, although SkuShi does protest vocally, and even though they do attempt to claw on carpets and area rugs, the damage is minimal.
I tried SoftPaws on Chris and I still chuckle when I remember how he would yank at those until he fell over backwards. It was worth a try and I think they are more effective when started at an early age.
I know that the declawing issue tends to be a very polarizing argument. I would never actually tell someone what to do however I would campaign very strenuously to make someone understand how much more humane it is to leave kitty's feet as is and learn to clip claws.
