I couldn't possibly disagree with you more.
Seen it done, owned both declawed and non-declawed, seen cats in the shelters of both sorts. Not that keeping a cat for life has anything to do with making declawing okay, but the sad fact is the majority of cats *don't* spend their life in one home. Mine will, yours might, but most don't. That's reality.
There is no reason to surgically modify something the cat uses and walks around on each day. Living with clawed cats is not a problem.
:People that declaw their cats should not feel bad about it as long as they keep their cats for their whole lives. I've had declawed cats all my life and they are very happy.... in fact, they are happier now that they are allowed to scratch the whole house!
