Martha -- My cats are 11 now. Others will have to weigh in on this, but in my case, I have only fed dry food their whole life. My vets agree. They have seen 3 or 4 in the same office their whole life and all three seem to think dry is just fine. I started them with the geriatric specialist recently, and asked the very same question. Particularly because Stanley just went thru a Urinary Tract Infection. Do I need to switch to wet? She said, no. Dry is fine. I do feed a lower magnesium premium non prescription off-the-shelf brand to help with infections. I tend to feed Nutro products, but, regardless, I have only fed dry for 11 years and I have had 5 vets tell me now that it is OK and didn't advise otherwise to switch or add in wet when I asked. I am no expert, tho... Some of the things I have heard, which may be misconceptions, are:

Dry -- better for teeth
Wet -- get more water if they don't drink water much on their own
Wet -- cats put on more weight
BOTH -- are nutritionally sound

Can anyone else help on this debate?

(Martha -- based on my vets' advise, I am sticking to dry only)
