I have been feeding my cat diet cat food that the Vet approved and in 2 mounths he went from 16 lbs to 14 lbs. The vet wants to take him down to 10 but he is a lage framed cat in genreal. I mean as a 2 mounth old kitten he was as big as a few full gron cats I have seen. And my husband told me he might get a kitten for chirstmas for me b/c I would like a spayed female also. My ? is how do I keep there feeding diffrent or dose it matter? Thank you!
Congratulations on getting the weight down on your boy! It is so hard to keep cats on a weight reduction diet. As for adding a kitten, I would start out feeding the kitten in a different room away from the adult cat. The kitten should get a high quality kitten food for the first year of her life and the higher calorie food definitely would not help your boy stay on his diet.
Many cats adjust to a set feeding twice a day. With a kitten, depending on the age, you might need to start with 4 small meals and reduce that to 2 or 3 meals as the cat matures.
I do have to say that I have to stand guard for my female cat to keep her brother from pushing her away and eating her food. He gulps his down and trys to get her food if I don't watch out for her.
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!
