Hoping Aby doesn't mind my posting, but I need help
:I have a 12.5 yr old cat that's my heart and soul. Recently I noticed he'd lost weight, and took him in today. He's got elevated liver enzyomes, and goes in for an ultrasound tomorrow. I am petrified of finding out he's dying.
:Vet sent him home on SD, and he HATES it. I had to force feed him tonite to get him to eat. Suggestions on a good, high quality non SD canned food I can give my boy? Highly digestable I'm assuming.
:Here or in email is fine. . going to go hug him
Of course I don't mind you posting here!!! Borzoi, first, your vet should know that it's nearly impossible to just arbitrarily change a diet with feline. If he doesn't like the SD, ask your vet about other brands. You didn't say which food - c/d or k/d or ??/d. But Purnia also makes a number of special RX diets.
Second, mix the special diet food in with his regular food, then gradually shift the amounts so he's getting more RX food. I would venture to say that your vet would agree that is more important that he continue to eat than not eat which can cause worse problems, especially with the liver.
GLOW to both of you and let me know if there's anything more we can offer in the way of advice.
