Kitten and Cat food mix-up!

Merry Christmas everybody! I have a question: I just adopted a cat three days ago (pics coming soon). She is a 1 year old (according to the shelter I got her from) calico lady with the sweetest baby voice, but she is on the bones (only seven pounds in a very large frame, very skinny).
The problem is: Bob, my resident 8 month old kitten, wants to eat her adult food, and viceversa. I was wondering since she needs to put on some weight and the other guy is (STILL, now 11 pounds!) growing, if I could just hold the cat food for a while and give them kitten food. I am mostly concerned about the kitten, who is still very active and growing. Thanks a lot in advance for the response.
