I recommend asking your vet for suggestions when you take your cat in for it's next visit.

I've always been told that kittens transition fully to cat food around one year of age.

I've had excellent results with hairball control dry food. I've tried a few of the premium formulas and find that Science Diet Hairball works best on my cats. I don't feed SD Hairball exclusively, tho. I mix 1/3 SD Hairball dry in with 2/3 Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care dry food. Basically a 20lb bag of Nutro Natural Choice with a 10lb bag of SD Hairball mixed together.

Wonderful results. Have mixed the two for several years. Went from a two hairballs a week between the two cats to one hairball every month or two between the two cats. They go weeks sometimes without hairballs.
