:hi there, anyone have any idea why my two cats are fighting? they are two spayed females. the older, more dominant cat, clio is a black persian. the younger one, pikaboo, is an american shorthair. they are both about one year old now. i gave them a bath a couple of days ago and since then, they have been greeting each other with fierce growls and hisses. they refuse to be in the same room together and the little one hides from the my bigger, older cat. they got along perfectly well before the bath. any ideas about their strange change in behavior? what should i do? should i just leave them alone to deal with it? or force some kind of confrontation? any ideas?
Your cats are probably fighting because the bath altered their scents. They don't "recognize" each other right now. Try keeping them separate for a day and rub one with a towel and then rub the other with the same towel and vice versa several times to exchange scents. Let them sniff under a door at each other too. Then try putting one in a carrier and let the other sniff it, and reverse. Also try exchanging the areas where they are isolated so they can pick up each other's scents too! Hopefully they will stop fighting in a while once they get used to the new scent!
