I just adopted two Maine Coons at the Humane Society and have questions about a couple of things. I've only had one cat before(Maine Coon mix) and she lived to be 16. She was the IDEAL cat. Never had any problem with her. The new girls are litter mates, females, 6 years old, and they weigh 12 lbs. each(the 'angel cat' weighed only 6 lbs.). I'm going through multiple cat adjustment as well as huge-cat adjustment. They are so sweet and we bonded in minutes...but I need some advice. 1. Is it normal for them to hiss at each other sometimes? They don't do it often, but I don't know when they are playing or serious. 2. I haven't figured out who is the dominant cat either. How do you tell? 3. One of them likes to pull the toilet paper off the roll and I think she's eating the paper...and she licks envelope flaps. 4. The other one goes in the closet and chews on the edges of plastic clothes bags and I caught her chewing on the edge of the plastic trash bag in the trash can. I don't think she's eating it but I'm afraid she will....more dangerous than the tissue paper! 5. What do I do about them getting litter EVERYWHERE? They kick it out of the box and sometimes they miss the box...they are big and I think that's why... I bought a large litterbox. And I don't think they'll like the covered box. Any suggestions? Also, I've never used anything except old fashioned litter...Is the scoopable really better? I change the litter every other day and sometimes every day if it's dirty.
Thanks for any advice...on these questions and any helpful hints on raising Maine Coons. They are so COOL, I just want to keep them happy!!!
