Hello!
My roommates and I adopted a wonderful 2-year old short-haired male cat last October. He had been picked up by a vet and was in good condition when we got him although a little underweight. Having never had a cat before we figured he'd stop eating if he was full so we kept food in his dish at all times. When we returned to the vet two weeks later he had gained several pounds! They told us he was still a healthy weight but we would need to cut back on the amount of food he received to prevent him from becoming overweight. We did this and he now receives a set amount of food each day. The problem is that he's a very vocal cat to begin with and now that he's not being fed all the time he crys A LOT! We can't go near the kitchen without him rushing in to his dish and meowing pathetically. Everytime we come home he crys from the top of the stairs. He wakes us up in the morning by running from my room to the kitchen crying. We didn't mind his already frequent vocalizations but now that he's crying all the time it's getting a little annoying. Does anyone have any suggestions on ways to discourage this behaviour? It would be greatly appreciated!
