I agree with PHCurious' suggestion to feed the same overall amount of food but in more frequent meals. Cats in the wild eat an average of 13 times a day, and it is probable they their metabolisms developed to have frequent small meals. This will keep their blood sugar metabolism more even.
You might also want to really consider the amount of carbohydrate in their food, and switch to a canned or homemade food instead of kibble. Cats are obligate carnivores and have no dietary requirement for carbohydrates at all, and there is some evidence that consuming them has negative effects on their metabolism and may even be connected to obesity and diabetes in domestic cats.
