I recently adopted a one year old cat, which was to my knowledge a homeless rescue. She has all of shots and has been spayed. The problem is that since I brought her home 3 days ago she hasn't ventured from under my bed except when I was gone. I was worried, so I put her water and food right under the bed so she could at least eat in private. I do get to pet her when I lay down on the floor and reach for her and she enjoys it. She even licks my fingers. As cute as that is I'm worried that she hasn't ventured out with me in the room. She's not using her box and not even going to the bathroom with healthy regularity in my mind. I had a cat for 18 years that went through 3 moves and she recovered much more quickly. If anybody has any tips I would surely appreciate it.

Brad, sometimes it takes a cat a few days to a few weeks to adjust to new surroundings and new humans. If she's a year old and has been in several homes or shelters it may take her a while to feel secure enough to come out. You might try sitting on the floor a short distance from the bed and read aloud to her or try some interactive toys. Don't be aggressive or move quickly, let her come to you.

Good luck and keep us posted!
