Hi everyone,
I know there must be some of you out there who care for or manage a feral colony or even some stray cats. Let's hear from you!
The group I volunteer for has been managing a colony of feral cats for a few years now. We trap, spay/neuter and release. Twice a day, we go to check on the ones who have litters of kittens and make sure they have shelter from the elements & fresh food and water. We trap kittens when we can, socialize them and find loving adoptive homes for them. Just by spaying and neutering those cats we can catch, we have noticed the numbers in the colony staying within a managable amount.
I think spay/neuter is the single most effective way of getting the cat overpopulation problem in hand. I would love to hear from more of you about how you manage your colonies...what types of shelters you use for them, etc.
Purrs,
Dottie
