:Dottie,
:Maybe I will try to take a picture of the place where we are feeding the trailer kitties so that I can show you. The trailer itself is on a raised platform, so there is a cozy place underneath for them to live in. There is also a little courtyard where we feed them. It is separated from the construction storage lot by a fence, but they like to play there after the workmen leave at night. As long as the trailer is there, that should be OK. The problem comes if it ever moves. The area is right next to the street, so I am not sure where I would put a shelter. I haven't talked to the University administration yet, since I don't have a plan. I would rather they not know what we are doing just yet. I suppose if we put a shelter there, we will have to ask permission (sigh...).
:Today, one of the cats was waiting for us when we came to feed them. He/she was a gray tabby, just like my Gracie. :)

::Sorry I didn't answer sooner, Ellen. It's been a busy rescue week. BTW, feel free to call me Dottie. ;)
::The colony we manage has about 30 or so cats. It's considered a suburban area. There is a small piece of semi-wooded land behind a CVS drugstore on a very congested and busy main road where they live. Surprisingly, we have only lost a few to cars. I think they learn the dangers of the road fairly quickly from their mothers.
::Is there some way to set up some small enclosed shelters for your colony?

Ellen, sounds like the trailor provides shelter from the wind and weather for the kitties. As long as they have someplace to go that provides some shelter, they manage. We like to have places for them that are raised off the ground level. Maybe you can place some old blankets or towels on top of a piece of styrofoam inside a box and put the boxes under the trailor? Is there room for that? Feral cats usually know where to find shelter, but we still worry about them during snowstorms and heavy rains. And they sure get used to the feeding schedule too. Our cats are always gathered around the feeding station at the same times every day. Amzing internal clocks they have! ;)
