Yes, that's his name. Told myself that when the receptionist asked for his name last week I would choose right then, split second.
Anyway, went in for vacc and exam last week. The doctor, whom I've never seen before, but seemed nice, heard an "obvious" heart murmur. Murmurs in cats, young ones especially, usually mean cardiomyopathy, which I've seen before at my old job. It's not so cool. Of course, she was trying to keep him from purring while she listened, but she was quite, quite certain about it and recommended cardiac x-rays, blood pressure and profiles, later to be followed by a cardiac ultrasound with a specialist. I wanted to do it all instantly, but she was wise and said we'll just listen to him again next week.
So, right after that I drove him to a friend of mine who is a veterinarian. I think she's great and she is extremely thorough, but she only does relief work and works at many clinics on different days of the week. I would prefer to have one hospital for my pets instead of 10, thanks, even though I really like her. ;-)
She listened for a long time, again trying to keep his purrs silent (what a little Ezra-weirdo, purring to all these vets!) and looked at me and told me that she didn't hear any such thing at all. She was also very, very certain. She said he was trying to purr, despite the alcohol on the cotton ball trick, so perhaps she could have been missing a slight murmur, but nothing on the scale the other doctor said. (The first vet rated it a grade IV murmur.)
Arrgghhh! The other vet seemed quite competent, I really believe both of them. Today I dropped him off at the hospital for his testing and requested that yet another doctor that I've seen there before listens to him too. They probably weren't taking me seriously, but I told the tech, "Just pass him around for everyone to listen. Take a poll!"
So, I'm all confused. I really, really hope the murmur is not there. But that would kind of make me distrust this hospital a bit, which bothers me too. Of course, having a kitten with a healthy heart is more important than whether or not I like a new vet.
So, I will pick him up after work today and find out what's what.
