Well, my preference in carriers runs to the soft-sided sherpa type bags. I hate dealing with those plastic carriers that I find awkward and a bit heavy to carry once the cat is inside. Plus, loading a feisty cat into a front loading carrier is harder for me than just dropping them into a top loading sherpa bag. I do agree that the plastic ones are easier to keep clean, but I line my carriers with a towel anyway so any "messes" that happen to occur are easily cleaned up by simply washing the towel. Whatever carrier you do use, it should be big enough for the cat to lay down in and stand up to turn around and always try to seat belt it into your car for safety sake. :)
