:I do know that sometimes cat's fur changes color as they age. But it does sound like this is related to the hyperthyroid treatment. If you are worried, perhaps a call to the vet before your next appointment might be in order. Otherwise, be sure to ask when you take the cat in. And feel free to post what the vet says here. I think we'd all like to know!

I have alway had a passion for black cats.
The first cat I ever chose (at 6 yrs. old) was an adult black cat. It has been my experience- over more than 35 yrs.- that black cats do get a reddish brown tinge to their fur as they get older. Actually I'm surprised that a 14 yr. old cat hadn't shown it sooner. This tinge of color is most noticeable (sometimes only noticeable) in the sunlight- don't know the reason, but it seems to be the case.
Also cats with some black, like the true Calicos or tri-colored, also display this
as they age. Personally, I don't think it is anything to worry about not do I think it is connected with the hypothyroidism.
We get gray & white hair - a black cat gets a reddish tinge. Such is life! lol
