I am not sure what to do about the static electricity. Can you run a hot shower in the bathroom a minute to raise the humidity and then groom the cat in there?

There are special mat remover tools - I was looking at one from DrsFosterSmith.com - you might see an ad on this site and click to get there fast. Anyhow, the mat remover tool looks kind of vicious to me, but maybe you can check one out at your local pet supply store if you want a closer view.
