In Reply to: Kitten on Batryil - Will not Eat or Drink posted by luluhoward on January 06, 2003 at 18:20:54:
:My poor kitten is not eating or drinking! I've taken her to the vet twice over the past week. They put her on Batryil a strong antibiotic. She seems to be very angry. She doesn't want to be bothered. All she does is sleep. She will not eat or drink. We've been using a syringe to give her water and a little baby food. Our vet doesn't seem to know what the problem is, which is really frustrating me. I am a first time cat owner and feel at a complete loss. Any suggestions on how to get my cat to eat and drink. How much water should we give her a day. She will not take it on her own. Thanks for the advice in advance.

If the vet is not aware of your kitten's current condition, then ASAP after reading this call, set up an emergency appointment and get the kitten in for hydration and food. Your kitten is very delicate and this is a serious matter. ASAP after reading this, please, please contact a vet or even an emergency vet and see about whether or not the kitten needs to start an IV.
Is your vet aware that the kitten is having such a bad reaction to the medication? If he/she is and hasn't tried to change the medication and hasn't given you any advice about hydrating and feeding the kitten then I really recommend that you change vets immediately.
