What is your vet's opinion about holding back treatment? My parents had a cat with diabetes and for some reason decided not to treat him. I wasn't living at home so I didn't see the effects of not treating the cat were like, but from what I understand he did pretty well until the end.

The decision to euthanize is a painful one, and also very personal. Most people generally use a quality of life guideline. If the cat is content and doesn't seem to be in any pain or suffering, then they feel that euthanisia is not needed yet.
