Absolutely, cats do get diabetes. No theory about it, it happens. Symptoms include weight loss, lethargy, excessive drinking and excessive urination. Some cats that are severely obese develop weight-induced diabetes, fewer cats that are not overweight can also develop diabetes.

To diagnose your cat your vet will need to do a urinalysis to check urine glucose levels or take a blood sample to test blood glucose. Your cat will need vet treatment if he is diabetic.

My indoor only cats live to be an average of 16, but many can live up to 20 years, sometimes more. 11 might be termed as a 'young' senior cat.

:is it possible for a cat to get diabetes, and if so are there signs to look for to prove that theory? Also how old to cats usually live, I've had my little guy for about 11 years.
