I am a first time kitten owner, so I am still learning what cats are capable of. This is my situation and what I have done. I have a medium size yard that has 6ft fencing around 90% of it and 4ft fencing around the remaining 10%. It is solid wood with nothing to grasp onto to climb up it. A few weeks ago I let my 6mo old kitten come outside in the yard with me. Oh what fun she had, stalking bugs and things. So since then we have gone in the yard together for about 15 or 20 min a day and she so looks forward to it and enjoys it. She has not once attempted to climb the fence (I keep her claws trimmed-don't know if that makes a difference) and just to be safe when she went near the 4ft part, I surprised her with a short hose squirt (she didn't know where it came from) and now she won't go near that part of the yard. So my question is this, once she grows up can she jump 6ft straight up in the air over the fence? Will she want to get out of the yard? I don't want her leaving my yard. And, she isn't on flea prevention because the last time we were at the vet I had no idea we would go outside. Should she be. I don't think I have fleas in my backyard, or do I? Are fleas everywhere? Should I get her something for fleas? Thank you.
