Cats who feel the yard belongs to them will not leave

your cat will eventually be able to jump onto a six foot fence(we had a cat that would jump onto our outdoor fridge), and will forget about the water near the four foot fence. I have 2 outdoor cats that had no desire to leave our fenced back yard or even the unfenced front yard. Now we have a back yard that goes right down into Reed College and they have a very minimal desire to explore the canyon (they only go about 100 feet from our yard).

I had a neighbor who took his two cats into the front yard once a day to play in the grass (don't ask me why). They did not use leash and did not try to run away.
