I have to agree, I would take the kitty with your family and keep her indoors. I also have several cats that were born feral. Until they came in, they had never seen a litter box. I put them in a small room (in my case a bathroom) without carpeting. Give them food, water, toys, a box to sleep in and a litter box. They always figure it out rather quickly. Have had a couple that used the floor the first time, but I just put the stool in the litter for them and they sniffed it and said "AHA" that is where it goes and that was that. 10 cats here can testify to the fun that can be had indoors and the safety too.
