Are those the ones that work by the animal wearing a certain collar that allows the door to open? If so, I don't know anyone that has used it, but you might want to not go that route because the collar is not a break-away collar. Cats are notorious for getting either their own body parts or tree branches or other things hung up in their collars, and if it isn't the break-away kind it can lead to strangulation.
Especially if this was a former stray and isn't used to collars...this cat will probably try to rip it off and could hurt itself if it isn't a break-away.
I say "former stray" because it seems you've pretty much claimed it...feeding it regularly in your garage and feeding it exclusively...and (!) you called it "my cat". Sounds like you've chosen to be chosen. :) I encourage you to take the kitty to the vet right away to get it spayed or neutered (or to have the vet determine if it has been already, spring is in the air!) tested for feline diseases and vaccinated. The spay/neuter is *extremely* important and I would also encourage you to bring your kitty inside...both these issues are even more prioriy because of the other cats you say are hanging around.
Welcome to cat ownership!
:Has anyone ever used those electronic pet doors for a cat? We have a stray that I'm feeding in the garage, but all the neighborhood cats are finding their way in! I would like to install a door that just opens for my cat? Any advise? Thank You
