Do you think Cleo, the 5mo old would have the same reaction to a kitten younger than her?

:This sounds so normal. No way would they decide they love each other in less than 72 hours. I would completely expect hissing and growling and I would completely expect the new cat to hide when placed in a strange environment, especially when there are other cats there already. She has to be pretty freaked out.

:I would put new kitty in a room by herself with litterbox and water. Go in and visit with her ALONE so she can get to know you in a space that is not quite so huge and new, without having to deal with strange cats. Let her have this safe place to learn to trust you. I would keep her her in there for at least a week.

:This will also give her and the other kitties a chance to be aware of each other and get used to the idea and smells without actually having to face down the stranger.

:When you finally start letting her out do it for little bits at a time, allowing her time to chill out in her room privately as often as she wants. She's plenty young enough to get curious and want to explore and play eventually

:Unless new kitty has some behavior issues, these cats are totally young enough to become friends. Just ease them into it.

:

::I have a situation where I have a 5mo old kitten and I decided that it was unfair to only have "grown up kitties" in the house so I decided to adopt another kitten to be her playmate. I adopted an older kitten; apprx 10 months old. The older kitten just ignores the little one and the little one just hisses & growls. I have them seperated and have placed wash cloths w/ the other cats scent under their food bowls...
:: The rescue I got the 10mo old from only allows 72 hrs to return the animal. I really do not want to return her but I just don't see the two getting along. (personally i think it take a whole lot longer than 3 days for 2 cats to become aquainted) The new kitty just hides in any dark place she can find and doesn't seem to be warming up to me at all. Any ways of getting the little kitten to warm up to the bigger one? I now think I should have gotten a kitten younger in age so that my exsisting wouldn't feel so threatened. Do you think the two will just battle it out & become friends, or should I take this poor kitty back to the rescue? I hate being so limited on time... Im kinda confussed @ what to do. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!
