I brought in 2 cats from a situation where their owner had died. When we brought the carriers in, one of a resident cats, Ferguson, a large 3 year old male, saw them and started making a very loud cry. Our other Cat, Cody, a small 1 year old male, came running down stairs and jumped up at Ferguson, and they got into a vicious fight and tried to kill eachother.
They were fine for 2 days, but then unfortunately Ferguson saw one of the new cats under a door, and he made the loud cry noise again. Cody jumped on him again and they had another vicious fight. It is very hard to always keep them seperated, and that night, and the following night Ferguson was able to run past us when the door was open for a second, and he proceeded to attack Cody and try to kill him, both times Cody was asleep. Ferguson also urinated on him both times.
The other cats have been gone for a week now, but the situation has not improved. Cody is very very scared, and they both get very angry when they see eachother. A couple times I was able to let them sniff each other without incedence, but then earlier Cody moved to close to ferguson and ferguson tried to attack him again, and cut me up in pretty bad in the process.
What should I do ? Is it better to have them see eachother when one cat is in a carrier ? Is it maybe better if they dont see each other for a few days ? They have lived together for 6 months and were always best friends before. They dont have any negative reactions to each others scents, only if they see each other. I don't want to have to give Ferguson up, but it looks like I might have to.
