:We have two 2-year old cats, one male and one female. Last week, we adopted 2 more cats from the Humane Society. One was able to come home yesterday and the other not until next Wednesday. The new guy we brought home yesterday (Rudy) is so sweet. He had his neuter yesterday and came home to our house to be met by the 2 hissing regular resident cats. We kept them separated for some of the day today but they were around each other for a couple of hours, not without issue. The male 2-yr. old cat, Sandy, was really agressive towards Rudy (new cat, 9 mos.) and hissed and growled continually. He didn't charge or try to attack but was extremely intimidating and watched him like he was hunted prey. The girl cat (Clio) was less aggressive and hissed three times since yesterday. The problem is, I can't isolate the new cat for a long period of time because our house is very open and the kitchen/living room are one big room and there is the Master Bedroom, an office and another spare bedroom, plus the guest bathroom where the regular cats have their litter box. My regular cats are really attached to going under the bed in the Master Bedroom. We have had Rudy in there since yesterday but Sandy & Clio went in today when he was in there. Rudy was sleeping and Sandy was watching over him sitting down about 2 feet away a couple of times today. I just don't know what to do because I feel so badly for Rudy as he is sweet and is looking at me like "Are you going to help me here?!"
:Now, the issue of concern is how long does this aggression go on and when should I keep them isolated (SOMEHOW.....) until Sandy no longer hisses and growls every time Rudy is out? Also, how to I reprimand Sandy or Clio when they hiss and act agreessively towards the new cat(s)?
:Second issue is, the second new cat will be coming here on Wednesday. He is a 2-year old male Flame Point cat. He is calm and gets along well with other cats. It's my cats who are going to have trouble with him. I will then have 2 new cats to deal with. How is the best way to go about this? Should I isolate Rudy & the second new cat for a month? I'm just really worried, I thought it would be difficult but because my 2 regular cats are not generally agressive cats, I didn't think there would be this much trouble. AND, I don't even have the second one here yet. PLEASE HELP ME! Thank you so much in advance......! :-)
