Yes there is and the earlier the better. The best way to describe it to you is in punctuation marks, believe it or not. I learned this many,many years ago and it has served me well. Pick up the kitten with your hand under its belly and its head facing away from you. Pick up the tail and look straight dwn under the anus. Now, including the anus, a malr looks like a colon (:) ~ a femal looks like a semi-colon (;). If you still have a problem post back. I will check this forum again in a day or 2.
