My cat hates me !

I recently got a new kitten and now my older will not come near me. Jade (the older cat) will not let me pet him or hold him or come near him. He hisses and growls. I am really concerned because i know he is depressed. I talk to him everyday and tell him I love him. I pet him and give him treats. He will not fight with the kitten. It seems it would be a domonice issue but it is not. He just wants to be left alone. I hate to see him like this. I refuse to get rid of my baby kitten however. How do I bring harmony to our home with both cats. If anyone has any suggestions please email me Hollylongs@aol.com
