Spike doesn't seem to like his new wet food today and so I had to mix it up with a little of the old wet food in order for him to eat it. The instructions on the Hill's literature said it was okay to do that but I will stop. He likes the dry food but the only problem is that all the other cats are wanting it too instead of their own. Seperating their feedings AS WELL AS taking away the dry food that they normally eat throughout the day is my only option now. (Normally I would feed each a tablespoon of wet food twice a day and have the dry food out as needed.) Will they get used to this and is this enough food for them? If not, I could have the dry food that Spike needs to eat out at all times so they could all eat from it and he would still be safe but that would be at a last resort as it's expensive. I've heard of other kitty households who just get either dry or wet feedings twice a day in larger amounts without having any kibble out inbetween but since my cats aren't used to this I just want to be sure this is okay for them.

He still is not showing any signs of discomfort (other than putting up with Pris and Sassy still kind of hissing at him a bit when he walks by them) but I'm back at work tomorrow so I won't be able to watch him as much, hopefully he'll be fine while I'm gone!

Thanks again for your input! Jo

:The most important thing right now other than your concern about his immediate urinary problems is his diet. I don't think that Spike's special diet will necessarily harm your other cats, however Spike does need to stay out of your other cats' regular food. Hopefully you are set up to do that.

:Please watch your kitty very carefully. You obviously know what the signs of a blockage are - if he seems to show ANY discomfort, especially licking at his genitals, get him into an emergency vet ASAP.

:If your regular vet does not seem to give your good answers, or if you are not happy with the care, please seek out another vet - perhaps one who specializes in cats. You are paying big money for your cat's care and you deserve answers to your questions and consideration!

:Good luck. Keep us posted as to how he does!
