Cat suddenly peeing on kid's bed and other things

Hello,

My name is Laurie and I have a male Himalayan (Castle Scott Georgie, aka George) that turned 1 year in September. We adopted him from a friend who just recently had a baby and also had another cat (George's brother) and three large dogs and was overwhelmed with all the pets and baby too. Anyway...we've had George since around June of this year and up until now he's been perfectly great and a great companion for our kids (a 1 year old and a 4 year old.) We also have another cat that I've had for 13 years...she's Siamese and hates everyone especially other cats, but for the most part they've found some sort of mutual understanding about whose boss (her of course.) George has been fixed since he was about 4-5 months old, however, he has recently started peeing on things in the house, especially my 4 year old son's bed (3-4 times) and our bed (1 time), but not limited to those areas. This has devastated us. He's been fine for 5 months and now all of a sudden he's peeing on everything. He doesn't spray, he squats and pees little bits at a time....just enough to mark and stink.

I took George to the vet right away and initially they put him on antibiotics 3 times a day for 10 days. During that time he'd been banned to the garage. We finished out the antibiotics and decided to give him a trial visit or two to the house and within minutes he bee-lined it up to my son's room and with us IN THE ROOM, he peed on his bed. He also pees and poops in the cat box, so it's not like he doesn't like the box anymore. We don't have two cat boxes, but we beefed up the one box to a extra large box and we clean it often.

My options that have been presented to us are 1. have him put down or 2. We live in town and have a small yard with a big fence, but it just seems like it would be really lonely and all he would have to do is poop and pee in my flower gardens so we'd have to give him to someone with a farm so he can become an outside cat. Well, I'd rather not do either but if I can't get him to stop peeing then we're most likely going to have to do one or the other.

My question, after all that, to you is... are you familiar with this being a Himalayan problem or is this way out of the ordinary for fixed male cats. I've considered the pheromone spray but we'd have to coat just about everything in the house down with it frequently since we have 3 different beds and several baby blankets and toys all over because of the kids. At $30 a bottle for a small bottle that seems pretty expensive. I've tried to think of something that could be upsetting him, but we really have not change anything in our routines or anything that could suddenly be making him mad. My son is potty trained but still needs to wear a diaper at night because he just sleeps to hard to wake up to urinate at night. So occasionally he has accidents and leaks outside of his diaper. At first I was wondering if George was taking cues from our son that it was ok to pee on his bed, but we changed the sheets cleaned the small spot on the matress, sprayed it with Fabreeze and flipped the matress over. Still George peed on the bed....luckily we caught it before it had a chance to soak thru the blankets. He's also peed on one or two of the baby blankets left on the floor when the kids are playing, again right in front us.

Do you have any suggestions? I'm saddened by his change in behavior.....is there anything we can do?
