It seems that I have a rather complicated problem with my cat. She is 10 yrs old. For years, she used the litter box. She has the habit of standing up as she is urinating (medically she checks out OK). It is just her habit. This forces us to use a cover. We had used clay, but years ago switched to clumpable litter. At some point, she stopped using the litter box, but I see no relationship between the litter switch. Later, we moved and she was in her own smaller room and was more forced to use the litter box.
We have since moved again, and she is back to her old tricks. There is no room in the house that would be conducive to "retraining" except the laudary room, which I've read is not a good idea as it can scare them when running the appliances.
Throwing into the mix that she used to have seizures and was on kitty valium for a while. She hasn't been on that for about 8 yrs though.
As far as her personality, she is a very anxious and high-strung cat.
We would really hate to have to put her outside as she has never been outside. However, we are in a really nice house now and cannot tolerate continued accidents, especially urine in the rugs. The feces at least cleans up better.
Also, what is best from an efficacy versus cost standpoint for removal of the urine smell in rugs?
