: I 've read up on lots of articles regarding cat urine on floors but our kitties (we don't know which one) used our sons bed to go potty on. I caught the "accident" approx. 2-12 hours after it happened. I sprayed it with a over the counter pet odor remover and then used my hoover steam vac to suck up most of the moisture. It is drying outside over night. Does anyone out there believe there is an alternative to throwing out the mattress?

A matress is tough because it has so many layers.
However, you might try spraying the area with white vinegar. Saturate it as best you can and agin put it out in the sun. If it's not mature, whole (un-fixed), male cat urine it shouldn't be that tough to get rid of. You might also want to find something that gets rid of the pheremones (?sp?). We can't smell them, but the cat can and he/she may return to the matress if he/she can still smell them. I use something called Bio-Storm and I get it from a hotel/motel cleaning supply place. It may be under different names in other parts of the country- I don't know. But try the vinegar first. I'd say baking soda but I don't know how you would get it into the matress! Just DON'T do the vinegar and the baking soda at the same time!!! It gives off fumes. Good luck!
