:Good morning from Barbados everyone.

:I really hope I'm doing the right thing here and even though I'm too far away for any real hands-on help from you folks, a little advice would be good.

:Yesterday afternoon I found a white and gray kitten in the shrubbery outside our office building. It was crying like crazy and from its' size, I'd gauge the age at 8 weeks or so. I didn't want to move it or anything just in case its mother had just wandered away for a little while so I checked to make sure it was clear from cars and everything and left it there. Needless to say this little furby was on my mind ALL last night!! With three cats at home already, I couldn't take this little tyke home - they would definitely have hurt or even killed it and I can't afford another one, as much as I may want to take him/her home.

:This morning I got in early to work and went to see if it was still there - YEPPER!! The little thing was in the same spot where I had left it and just like yesterday, there was no sign of its mother. I went upstairs to see if the Animal Welfare Society could help (one of our directors' wives is a volunteer) and was told that they would come for the kitten this afternoon. In the interim I went to the supermareket for a can of food - I wasn't sure if it would eat it or not as I had no way of knowing if it had been weaned yet. When I got back, it was still there and when I put the food down, the dear thing just went at it like crazy!! At least I know that it CAN eat solid food. I will keep checking on it through the morning until about 12:45 and then I will catch it and put it in a box for when the Animal Welfare people come. I'll let you all know what happens after this. I just want to know - am I doing the right thing?

****Hello again. I just wanted to let you all know that the kitten is safe and sound at a "kittery" with the Animal Welfare Society. I managed to catch it and put it in a box until they could come and pick it up. I didn't check to see if it was male or female because I didn't wanna traumatize the little furby anymore than necessary. Once it was in the box, it cried off and on, but seemed to quiet down whenever it could actually see me and sniff my fingers through the holes in the box. The lady assured me that the kitten would be well taken care of. Since then I have been on the lookout for the mother, but she hasn't come back, so I'm guessing something happened to her. Well, at least her baby is safe and hopefully will find a home soon.
