Good name for a kitty! Thanks for adopting from a shelter.
Pediatric spaying and neutering is regularly done these days, most especially in shelters or for cats and dogs who are going to be adopted. It's the very best way for the rescues to ensure as many pets as possible get altered so they won't be seeing offspring later from any animal they adopted out.
The vet clinic where I worked did cat/kitten adoptions and we altered every one before letting them go home with their new people, no matter their age. With pediatric altering there is a certain weight they must reach before their surgery, but most kittens are at this weight by about 8 weeks or so.
You have a boy, and cat/kitten neutering is way, way safe for them at any age because everything the vet is working with is outside the body wall, no true surgery is done and it only takes minutes.
He should have no ill effects at all, and in fact was up and eating and cavorting probably the instant they placed him back in his cage afterwards, whereas at 6 months his recovery would have been longer.
:Hi. My cat Joshua was neutered at 10 weeks! The shelter insisted(I would have had it done at six months) What effects behavioral or otherwise does early neutering have? Thanks in advance!
