Since an elderly cat can deteriorate rather rapidly, it is a good idea to get to know his/her routine and behavior as much as possible. Any change in behavior or routine is a signal that something might not be quite right, and you may want to contact the vet. Also your senior cat will slow down quite a bit - perhaps develop some hearing problems. As cats age, it can also be harder for them to climb in and out of litterboxes. You may have to provide some sort of ramp. With proper care and a good amount of luck, your cat might have many more years with you.
Tammy said almost everything that needs to be said on the subject of special care for seniors.
