About two weeks ago I adopted a 12-13 year old cat who has been box trained but is only using the box about half the time. She's found a spot in the hall next to the bathroom (where she should be going) that she seems to prefer for deposits.
She came with the box, so it shouldn't be unfamiliar to her. She also came with a blanket that she was using for a bed. After cleaning up in the hall, I put her bed there hoping that might dissuade her, but she just manuevers around it. I was trying to keep the box as clean as possible, but a friend suggested that I move her calling cards there to give her a point of reference. I've also dosed the hall with febreze. She's got an appt. with the vet next week for a check-up, and I'll talk to the doc then. My schedule is so crazy that I'm almost never here when she's taking care of personal business.
Do any of you veterans have any tips? Anything I haven't thought of? She's sweet as candy and I'm already getting atached to her, but I can't keep her if I can't housebreak her. I'm hoping that it's just taking her a little time to adjust because she's older, but I'm starting to get a little worried.
Thanks in advance.
