If you haven't already done so, check out the thyroid board under Cat Health at this site. Also hop to the General Cat Topics boards. A lot of people have had this problem with their cats, although I haven't.

The prognosis on hyperthyroidism seems to be good if it is treated with meds, surgery or even with the iodine treatments. My sister had her cat done with the radioactive stuff and it took two tries, but things went very well after the second go round.
