Severely anemic

The vet says that my cat is severely anemic, his blood count is 17 and it is supposed to be 43. The vet says if Henry's blood count goes below 12 he will die. Henry also has some sort of mass on his side, it isn't attatched to any of the easily fixed things, an exploratory surgery would be needed to find out if it is operable and the vet says there is only a 50% chance that it would be operable, so we are opting not to do the exploratory surgery. He is 12. I'm wondering if there is anything we can do to raise his iron levels or help with the anemic business.
He vomits occasionally, but not more than once a week, and has runny stools frequently.
