If he has had a blood chemistry and CBC performed by your vet and your vet sees no signs of renal failure there should be no need to feed him the K/D. however, if his bloodwork shows signs of early renal failure a renal diet can prolong a cat's life. If he's fine a high-quality diet would be best.
Personally, as far as manufactured renal diets go, I prefer the IVD Modified diet to the K/D. But I wouldn't assume he was healthy, I'd run the bloodwork.
:I had 2 cats both 11 years old; the sister was put down about 3 months ago due to kidney failure; before she was diagnosed, I had bought for her the Science Diet K/D formula food; does anyone know if this type of food is okay to feed my other cat (the brother) which is still healthy; he loves the food. Due to his age, would this be helpful to him; I want to make sure he does not fall victim to the kidney disease, if at all possible.
