As I prepared to bring a Smokey into my home, I bought him a variety of toys at PetSmart to play with. He has ignored every last one of them. At first I thought, "Oh no...this kitty is very serious." Boy was I wrong. I'm amazed at how much energy he has for a 10 year old. He still snubs those fanch-schmancy store bought toys, and instead has found hours of enjoyment in a length of white satin ribbon, the buttons on my duvet cover, and my hand--which sometimes is seen as a grooming tool and other times as prey to be stalked. In the mornings he wakes me up and then lies next to me as I get oriented. Then he begins batting at the wooden buttons on my comforter. He'll grab it in his mouth and try to pull it off before getting all wild-eyed and bolting for the kitchen, where he usually slides accorss the floor and into the door.
